Every Day Counts - Valuing School Attendance

Saturday, May 10, 2014 7:25 AM

We all want our children to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.

If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school.

There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and is associated with progressively lower achievement in numeracy, writing and reading.

At last week’s assembly I had the pleasure of presenting almost one third of our students with Attendance Awards. Each of the 80 children named as an Attendance Star had not missed a single day of school in Term One!

We also recognised Areas 16, 13 & 6 for excellent weekly attendance numbers last term, and A3 took out the weekly award for the first week of this term. Congratulations to all students and their families who attend regularly and are committed  to education and learning!

Thanks so much,    Kellie Thorp
