National Apology Day

Thursday, February 18, 2016 8:15 PM
The 13th day of February is National Apology Day which marks the anniversary of the apology speech made by Kevin Rudd MP to the Indigenous peoples of Australia for the past mistreatment by successive Parliaments and Governments.
The Apology anniversary theme for 2016 is Heal our Past, Build our Future, Celebrating our Heroes. It highlights the importance of recognising and sharing the experiences of our Stolen Generations members and those in our communities who make a difference. Our Stolen Generations heroes and their experiences are unique to each region around Australia.

2016 State Spectacular

Thursday, January 28, 2016 9:05 PM
The Spectacular includes a cast of 3000 Victorian government school students, working towards a common goal in a collaborative, competition-free environment. Its dual aim is to provide an invaluable performing arts opportunity to Victoria’s government school students and to showcase the enormous talent that exists in our schools. This all comes together in a 2-3 hour scripted show that celebrates a diversity of performance mediums, including choir, dance, vocal, drama, and orchestra. The Spectacular promotes student engagement and educational outcomes by boosting motivation and student attendance, building confidence and self-esteem, leadership skills, cooperation, collaboration, forging friendships and a sense of belonging. Students who participate in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular are provided with a unique opportunity to work with internationally renowned industry professionals across all disciplines, as well as the amazing experience of performing live in front of thousands of people.
Our school has been selected to participate in the 2016 State School Spectacular held on Saturday 10th September at Hisense Arena Melbourne. In the next week, students in grade 5/6 will attend an information session about the Spectacular and then we will ask for expressions of interest. Students may be required to audition as there are very limited places (12-16). Students selected will need to commit to regular rehearsals, giving up some breaks to assist with fundraising, be prepared to spend 3 nights in Melbourne (with an approximate financial contribution of $100)

EQ Parent Information Session

Family life is the first place that we learn to recognize, understand and manage our emotions. How can we demonstrate the importance of ‘choice’ when responding to our own feelings and the feelings of others? Join us for an interactive workshop to learn about how our school is working to create a positive emotional climate for learning and developing the social and emotional skills of our school leaders, teachers and students. Family members will learn about the science of emotional intelligence and how we are applying the skills of emotional intelligence in our school with RULER. You’ll learn how to use emotional intelligence to help build trusting relationships at home while developing skills that will serve your child for a lifetime.
